Andy Kenyon –  Director Structural Engineering

MEng MIStructE

Joining DWS in September 2023 as a Structural Director, Andy utilises his many years of diverse experience in structural design and development where he is proud to support DWS projects from inception, due diligence, feasibility, through pre-planning stages to submission and post planning to detailed design and construction.

 

Andy says ”alongside management skills, our team provides full civil and structural engineering and project management services in both traditional and modern methods of construction - I am delighted to be a part of the team".

Andy is a motivated and conscientious Director with a keen interest in business improvement and do this through the development and encouragement of the individuals in the DWS team - as well as ensuring we work to robust processes and harness technology to drive efficiencies and collaboration - he ism a member of several industry and professional bodies and serve on the board of ProCon Leicestershire, where he offers his experience and expertise in developing the organisation and the wider industry.

Bhavin Parmar – Director of Civil Engineering

BEng (Hons), Civil Engineering

Bhav joined DWS in November 2023 as Director of Civil Engineering, bringing with him a wealth of experience in both engineering and management. He has a strong track record of leading teams, delivering innovative and efficient design solutions, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

 

Bhav is passionate about collaborative working, supporting the team in feasibility studies, SuDS drainage strategies, and detailed Drainage and Highways Engineering design—always striving for compliant, cost-effective solutions.

Fergus Shaw – Director Structural Engineering

CEng FIStructE MICE FFB

Fergus has over 40 years wide ranging experience in conceptual and final structural design and specification of elements and structures incorporating all principle building materials within the Commercial, Retail, Leisure, Education and Residential environments.

 

Fergus was a Senior Engineer with the fledgling Diamond Wood Partnership when it was founded in 1990, ultimately becoming an Associate Partner, before leaving to pursue an alternate career with Hyder Consulting, both in the UK and Middle East, and as an Associate Director with Faber Maunsell / AECOM, before re-joining the partnership in 2010.

 

In 2012 the company developed into Diamond Wood and Shaw Limited, with Fergus taking on sole ownership and Managing Director responsibilities. In 2025, still working full time for the company, Fergus supports Andy Kenyon and Bhavin Parmar as they lead the company forward.

 

Fergus is a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers and Forum for the Built Environment as well as being a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.  He has served on the Midland Counties Branch Committee as Secretary and Chairman and served on the Technical Publications Panel and Professional Conduct Committee at IStructE Headquarters in London and has served as Chairman of the East Midlands Regional Group and serves on the Council.

Russell Hawkins – Technical Director

Russell joined the company in 2013 as a Technical Development Manager. He has over 35 years of broad ranging construction industry experience within Civil and Structural Engineering, Technical Architecture, Building Maintenance, Mechanical & Electrical Contracting and Product Design.  Sectors include Residential, Industrial, Distribution, Education and Historic Buildings.

 

Russell provides internal leadership and management, implements new efficiencies and monitors quality. Understanding client requirements and attention to detail are very much second nature for Russell, who strives to ensure projects run smoothly and are delivered to the highest standards. 

 

Russell is the first point of contact for all CAD and Revit based enquiries, training, and updates, ensuring our staff are fully trained in the latest technologies. Having worked on BIM based projects since 2013 he also promotes collaborative working with any client wishing or needing to implement this level of detail.

 

Russell also looks after our project planning and programming and brings cohesion to our every-day working activities.

Rebecca Shimmings – Senior Infrastructure Engineer

BTec HND GMICE

Rebecca joined the company in 2006 and is an invaluable member of the team. She has over 21 years’ experience in Highway and Drainage design and specification including Sustainable Drainage Systems and Flood Risk Assessments. 

 

As Senior Infrastructure Engineer she has established relationships with Local Authorities and Utilities companies in order to produce designs ranging from high-level concept details for Planning purposes to full Technical Approval for final Adoption agreements. Project experience extends from small single property extension works to full Industrial Estates and Education facilities for private and commercial developers, including Housing Associations.

Richard Barnes – Senior Structural Engineer

BEng (Hons) MSc GMICE

Richard joined the team in 2007 and has more than 30 years’ experience in various structural disciplines, this includes the design of multi-storey timber frame buildings, large to small residential schemes, educational and commercial developments / refurbishments.  

 

Richard also undertakes structural surveys including RAAC surveys and rebuilding / repairing vehicular impact, subsidence and fire damaged properties.

Laurence Cracknell – Structural Engineer

MEng 

Laurence joined the company in 2013 after graduating from the University of Warwick.  He has over 12 years of experience in the structural design and detailing of a wide range of Residential, Commercial, Retail and Educational projects, including work as both a Structural Engineer and CAD Technician.

Leigh Middleton – Infrastructure Engineer

Leigh has over 10 years’ experience in Infrastructure Engineering.  His project experience extends from small single property extension works to full Industrial Estates and Education facilities.

 

Leigh's work encompasses the design and auditing of Highway and Drainage elements including the specification/design of Sustainable Drainage Systems - including taking designs through to planning and full Technical Approval for final Adoption agreements.

Mark joined DWS in February 2024 as a structural engineer where he utilises over 19 years of diverse engineering skills designing and developing projects for the wide client base.

Daniel White – Infrastructure Engineer

Daniel joined DWS in September 2021 and is an infrastructure engineer utilising degree qualifications. Daniel's work encompasses technical aspects of Infrastructure design including the specification/design of Sustainable Drainage Systems.  His experience covers small single property extension works, to full Industrial Estates and Education facilities.

Prerit Gurung - Civil Engineer

Prerit joined DWS in July 2024 and is a highly motivated and versatile Civil Engineer with extensive experience in delivering residential, industrial and commercial civil engineering projects. Adept at collaborating with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure successful project completion within budget and on schedule. Prerit has strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to continuous learning and professional growth.

Sophie Wood - CAD Technician

MSc

Sophie joined DWS in July 2024 and is currently working as a skilled Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technician.  She holds a Master of Science from the University of Portsmouth in Historic Building Conservation. Having graduated in Archaeological Practice from University of Winchester in 2009 and worked in commercial archaeology she began working as a surveyor in the civil and rail sector in 2015.  Sophie's extensive experience working in multidisciplinary environments, on large infrastructure projects from windfarm and aviation pipelines to HS2 has ensured she brings a unique perspective to technical CAD projects.

Dirren Parmar - Graduate Structural Engineer

BEng (Hons) Civil and Structural Engineering

Dirren joined DWS in September 2024 after graduating from the University of Derby.  After quickly settling into the team, he has proven himself to be highly motivated and committed to personal growth with supporting design work and collaborating closely with senior engineers to develop his technical skills and knowledge through a range of projects.

Jacquie Thornber – Finance and Office Manager

BA (Hons), Dip PS

Jacquie started with DWS in November 2022 as the Finance and Office Manager.  Jacquie's diverse career includes serving in the Women's Royal Air Force, nursing and charity management.

 

With an extensive background in financial and office management - from roles within the construction industry, charities, business and most recently the health sector, Jacquie brings a wealth of skills and experience to her role and acting as Quality Manager, has recently taken the company through ISO 9001:2015 registration and is updating her IOSH certificates.

 

Jacquie has recently requalified as a First Aider and holds the L3 Adult Mental Health: Workplace First Aider qualification.

 

With her multi-disciplinary and 'hands-on' approach, Jacquie is committed to supporting the development of the company and the highly skilled DWS team.

Carol West - Administrator
